Please visit my website at www.cs.trinity.edu/~hhassan/. I think making a website was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I used Microsoft Expression Web to make my website. I am most proud of my Travel page because I feel that it has the best pictures and layout. I would have changed the background to be a bit more simple. My biggest technical challenge was to get everything to be the same on every page (the size of the navbar, the background, ect) My biggest design challenge was to make the background. It took me forever! I will show my site to my friends and family. I don't think I will use this site for another class in the future.

Picture that Lie

Some examples of digitally manipulated photos are "... magazine and newspaper covers [that] depict celebrities doing things that they have never done in places that they have never visited; print and TV advertisements [that] show products doing things that they cannot do; and digitally enhanced movies [that] present compellingly seamless blends of reality and fantasy." My picture that lies consists of a picture of the hip hop artist Jay Sean and a picture of me with a friend of mine. I took both of these photos and combined them to make a new photo: one of Jay Sean and me. I chose the picture of Jay Sean because he is my favorite music artist and I thought it would be fun to doctor a picture of me with him. I chose this picture because someday I plan on meeting him, but for now, this picture is good enough. I found the original picture on a interviewer's website. I don't think that the manipulation was harmful in any way because the photo was intended for personal use, not for anything commercial or that is going to be published. The article I found talked about how doctored photos can create false memories. I can see how that happens because I feel like I have already met Jay Sean!

HTML writing

Even though software like Kompozer and ExpressionWeb exist and make it easier to make web sites, it is important to know how to write HTML code manually. This skill allows you to know how to make basic web sites. Knowing how to write HTML manually also enables you to be able to go in and fix problems in the code when you experience glitches.

PowerPoint presentations

The PowerPoint presentations were all really good. The two I liked the most were Chelsea's and John's presentations. Chelsea's topic of was interesting and had a great video that showed a fascinating aspect of birds and sexual selection. The design and content were both interesting and pertinent to her topic. John's was interesting because it really showed how much he is intrigued by Pediatric Dentistry. His presentation almost persuaded me to become a Pediatric Orthodontist. His presentation was informative and professional. I liked both the content and the design.

Death by PowerPoint

A few things that are important to avoid when doing PowerPoint presentations are:

• Don't read the slides! Your audience should know how to read. Use the slides as an outline of your presentation.
• Don't be tacky! Too many animations can be distracting.
• Don't put too much info on the slides! This encourages reading off of the slide. Stick to an outline!
• Don't use too many different colors! Having a theme throughout your PowerPoint will make it look more put together.
• Don't use too much Clip Art! Having mature pictures makes presentations look all the more professional.

If you avoid these few things, your PowerPoint will be on its way to being professional, clear, and concise.

Chris Nolan

On Tuesday, Chris Nolan from the library came to visit us to talk about searching for information, Google, directories, and evaluating websites. I did not how Google gets its most popular results (the results at the top of a search). Apparently, there are many reasons for results being at the top of a search, such as the number of links on the page. I did not know that the only results that are paid for are the small ones in the top right-hand corner of the page under the words Sponsored Links. Also, sometimes the Sponsored links can be in a shaded yellow box above the normal results. It makes me happy that Google does not base the normal results on how much money has been given to them by the person who the website belongs to. Something I found interesting about the presentation is that it is possible to change the language of your Google to Pirates.
